Did you know that more than a quarter of people don’t like smiling because of their teeth? This is according to a recent study that says 28 percent of people don’t show their smile when taking pictures on social media because they assume their teeth are unattractive. In addition to this stat, 81 percent of people state that they believe their teeth look unattractive in photographs.
The study, conducted by Bupa, an international healthcare group, included about 2,000 participants and also showed that 42 percent of people said their smile was the first thing they would change about themselves, and slightly more than one third of the people said they were embarrassed by their smile.
Finally, around half of the people in the study said they felt pressure to have a perfect smile. Do you feel like this about your smile? Are you wondering what you can do to change it? Never fear, Cleaner Smile is here!
Take into consideration that almost half of the people who said they were embarrassed or worried about their smile said they didn’t know how to brush their teeth properly. There were also 29 percent of the participants who said they didn’t always use toothpaste when brushing, and more than two thirds said they never flossed. One out of five people also stated that they chewed gum instead of brushing.
So no matter how you feel about your smile, the results of the study show that much of this can simply be attributed to good oral health. If the reason a person’s smile doesn’t look the way he or she wants, it could be because the person doesn’t take time to maintain good oral health. In this edition of Cleaner Smile Blog we’re going to give you some quick and simple at home tricks to whiten your teeth quickly.
1. Brush After Drinking or Eating
The best way to whiten your teeth naturally — though maybe not always the easiest — is to simply brush your teeth with an appropriate toothpaste after eating or drinking something. This takes a lot of persistence and can even be difficult depending on where you are at the time of eating (such as work or school)
Avoid smoking cigarettes, drinking too much coffee and/or soda, while at the same time improving your oral hygiene overall. Eating a healthy diet can all also help prevent yellow teeth. Keep in mind, that if you do regularly drink staining beverages, do so through a straw and try to cut back. Try to drink water after eating, or drink something acidic to help reduce the negative effects of beverages that may stain.
Unfortunately, if you are a coffee drinker or smoker, you can pretty much count on having discolored teeth over time due to thinning enamel and/or staining. If this is the case, you should certainly consider having your teeth cleaned every three months in addition to trying some of the natural remedies listed here.
2. Drink Warm Salty Water
It might sound too easy, but Teeth Whitening Strips are a tried and true way to whiten your teeth quickly, even a few shades overnight. Studies show that using teeth whitening strips can give teeth a whiter, brighter appearance that is noticeable and long lasting. Teeth whitening strips can also offer several advantages over other popular techniques for whitening teeth. For one, teeth whitening strips are significantly less expensive than in-office teeth bleaching procedures performed by dentists.
If you consider that a typical box of teeth whitening strips sells at retail stores for $20 to $80, this is a huge savings when compared to laser teeth whitening procedures performed by dentists. You’re looking at a whopping $600 to $1,200 for a procedure like this. Many people find teeth whitening strips super convenient since they are pre-coated with gel and have an easy, quick application. Simply remove a strip from the package and apply the adhesive side to your teeth. Wear them for 30 minutes while you watch a Netflix episode of your favorite show and you’re good to go!
3. Shake and Bake Your Way to a Gorgeous Smile!
At home teeth whitening DIY wouldn’t be complete without Baking Soda. A recent review published in the Journal of Dentistry found that in five controlled clinical studies on over 270 subjects, those brushing with a baking soda dentifrice (toothpaste or powder) showed greater enhanced plaque removal effectiveness than those who used the non-baking soda tooth cleaning products. Results from measurements of patients’ tooth surfaces (such as facial, lingual, proximal and gingival surfaces) also demonstrated statistically greater reductions in mean plaque scores when using baking soda compared to when using baking soda-free products.
To use these products safely to whiten your teeth, brush your teeth as usual first, making sure to reach the back of the teeth too. Rub the paste onto your teeth for about 30 seconds, then rinse well. For guidance when using baking soda on your teeth, you can also refer to these directions for making homemade remineralizing toothpaste or homemade probiotic toothpaste.

5. Fruits, fruits and more fruits!
Some swear that using citrus fruits — including lemon and/or orange peels, or lemon essential oil, which contains beneficial acids — can do the trick for whitening teeth. Rumor also has it that some celebrities whiten their teeth with strawberries. Even model Tyra Banks tried this tooth-whitening trick on her show. She simply mashed up about four or five strawberries and rubbed this fruity mixture all over her teeth, then rinsed well afterward. These foods overall are very healthy, but the high acid content can also eventually wear away the enamel on the teeth if used too aggressively. When using any of these fruity concoctions, be sure to always rinse your mouth afterward to be on the safe side.
